Joe,My current wirnitg process is the same as when I wrote my first novel. I do some reasearch, but mostly prefer to use my imagination when I can keep it believable. I write a loose outline that I don\'t always follow. However, I always know how the story will begin and most of the time how it will end. Sometimes, during the wirnitg process, the story will change direction from the initial outline. I find once I get the character(s) down on the pages he/she will often lead me in a direction that makes more sense than what I had originally mapped out. My first book was long-winded. When I made revisions after the agent read it, I cut out 250 pages per the agent\'s suggestion. Now, my wirnitg is more concise. I\'m more picky about choosing the right active verbs. I try to make sure every word and sentence has a purpose to be on the page, and that the dialogue is tight and moves the story forward. The characters in my second novel and current novel are more fully developed than in my first novel. Creating and developing dynamic characters has been the most challenging part of the wirnitg process for me. I feel my own voice is more fully developed compared to when I first started wirnitg. Subconsciously, I was holding back because I was somewhat shy with my wirnitg. Like most beginning writers, I tried to emulate bestselling authors. I\'m much more confident wirnitg stories the way I want to tell them. I write more freely now. I don\'t hold back during the rough draft, knowing I can go back and revise the mess later. My style is crisper and cleaner. I think there\'s an easy flow to my wirnitg and yet I hope the action and characters jump off the page. The latter part is always a work in progress for me. The novel I\'m wirnitg now is a thriller. I usually don\'t talk about what I\'m currently wirnitg until I have the story completed. I\'m always afraid I\'ll jinx the project if I talk to much about it and before I think it\'s worthy to talk about. Keep sending out queries. You\'ll find an agent who will be excited about your book. I\'ve read about other authors who self-published first and obtained an agent who discovered them that way. I\'ve been considering the self-publishing route, too. It seems that it\'s becoming more common among first time authors. Thanks for sharing.
